Back cover blurb:

Everyone makes them.

We are only human.

Some of our mistakes are small…

like the times you stay up till 2am studying for a test that you end up failing because you are too tired to think.

Others are so catastrophic that they change your life…. forever….

Maddison regrets not listening to her parents, not being a ‘good girl’ and not staying at home like she was supposed to instead of sneaking off with her friends for a Spring Break getaway.

How she wishes she could turn back time; then maybe she wouldn’t be in the nightmare she is in now. Kidnapped and taken to a different country unaware of where she is or what these men want with her.

Maddy’s parents can’t help her, in fact they aren’t even aware she is in Mexico. Who can save her? Or can she save herself?

My review:

Teenage Maddison, out for adventure and the chance to increase her social standing, falls for a suave older man at a party. He convinces her to lie to her parents so they can spend spring break away together, but then it all goes horribly wrong. Jack is not the man he appears to be, and suddenly Maddy and her friend Aimee find themselves held captive, about to be sold off as slaves across the border.

Maddy and Aimee came across as quite self-centred, and that made them reasonably realistic portrayals of teenagers! My favourite character, though, was Dalton, Maddy’s fellow captive. Their relationship was a highlight of the book, and one I was cheering for.

I read an advanced copy of this book, and thought it got off to a bit of a slow start, but by the end I was really keen to see what would happen next. I really hope Dalton can come to the rescue!

My rating: 3/5
