Question of the Week:  What are the Top 5 Books that you are looking forward to in 2013?

Apologies, folks! I haven’t been around for a while, and I haven’t done one of these follows for ages, but this looked like a good one to join in on.

Obviously, my first must-buy for 2013 will be Lover At Last by J.R. Ward. I know a lot of people are really looking forward to March when it comes out.

I can’t wait for Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi, because Shatter Me was one of my fave books this year. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

Julie James is another auto-buy, so Love, Irresistibly is expected to be really good.

I don’t have the cover for it yet, but Burned by Karen Marie Moning should be good. I haven’t read Iced yet – it isn’t available here, much to my annoyance – but this series is pure win and you can’t have enough Barrons or Ryodan.

And my number five, again with no cover yet, is Painting by Numbers by Jasper Fforde. The first book in this series, Shades of Grey, was amazing!

Karen Marie Moning shares the first 27 pages of Iced!

Karen Marie Moning just likes to tease us! She has released the first 27 pages of Iced for us, ahead of the October 30 release date, and I’m so excited for this book! W00t!

Teaser: Iced, by Karen Marie Moning

You all know how much of a fan of Jericho Barrons I am – *swoon* – so I was super-excited to see Karen Marie Moning had posted a wee teaser for her upcoming continuation of the Fever series, Iced, on her Facebook page yesterday. Iced is going to be the first in a trilogy based on Dani and featuring Christian MacKeltar and the mysterious Ryodan – and I hope JZB makes lots of appearances!

Here’t the teaser:

Ryodan doesn’t like Mac. He never has. She got between him and his best boy-bud. I give him a look. “I’ll tell you a secret, Ryodan. You mess with her, Barrons’ll kill you.” I drag a finger across my neck. “Just like that. You aren’t all that. Barrons’ll stomp your ass, hand’s down.”

He smiles faintly. “I’ll be damned. You have a crush on Barrons.”

“I do not have a crush—”

“You do, too. It’s all over your face. Anybody could see it.”

“Sometimes, boss, you’re just wrong.”

“I’m never wrong. You might as well take out a billboard. ‘Dani O’Malley thinks Jericho Barrons is hot.’ My offer to teach you is still open. Save you from future embarrassment. If I can see it on your face, he can, too.”

“He never figured it out before,” I grumble then realize I just admitted it. Ryodan has a tricky way of wording things that makes you say things you didn’t mean to say. “Maybe I’ll ask Barrons to teach me,” I mutter and turn away from the stairs, heading for his office. I run smack into his chest. “Dude, move. Trying to get somewhere here.”

“No one but me is ever going to teach you, Dani.”

He touches me before I see it coming, has his hand under my chin, turning my face up. My shiver is instant and uncontrollable.

“That’s non-negotiable. You signed a contract with me that grants exclusivity. You won’t like it if you try to break it.”

Ooh, me likey 🙂 Iced is expected to be published on October 30.

I can’t wait until October!

The Book Hookup

Today on Karen Marie Moning’s Facebook pagewas the cover reveal for her upcoming novel,ICED.

This is the spinoff from the fabulous FEVER series (yes, the one with JZB!) and centers on Dani O’Malley.

I figure the folks that are the most interesting get to go to heaven. I mean, if I was God, that’s who I’d want there with me. I also figure being eternally happy would be eternally boring so I try not to be too interesting, even though it’s hard for me. I’d rather be a superhero in hell than an angel in heaven. What the feck would I do all day if I wasn’t kicking demon ass?

Question of the Week: If you could ask your favorite author one question, what would you ask?  And don’t forget to include the author in your answer.

Ooh, another tough one! After much deliberation – and rejecting J.R. Ward because I would want to ask her too many questions – I decided on Karen Marie Moning, author of the amazing Fever series.

I love Barrons – who doesn’t? – and have always been intrigued by his relationship with Ryodan. Mac is okaaay, and their HEA was inevitable, but in all honesty I read the series for the men. Well, for Barrons. *sigh*

So anyway, I would ask Ms Moning if she would ever consider writing Barrons’ and Ryodan’s backstory. I’m sure I’m not the only one who would be interested in finding out how the two of them met, what adventures they have had, and finding out what Ryodan is. Is he the same as Barrons?

If I could ask another question, I’d like to ask: “Why Tubthumping?” I mean, really? Chumbawamba just make me laugh so hard now, thinking of Barrons dancing au naturel.

My review:

Amazing book. Amazing series. I loved this so much from go to whoa. Many of my suspicions turned out to be correct but some revelations were a complete surprise (the mark of a great writer, in my humble opinion). Ms Moning cleverly tied up almost all the loose ends and by concluding with “The End… for now” I have hope she may pick up some characters’ stories further down the track. I’d certainly like to find out more about the people who own the abbey, for example. And what happens to Christian and Dani.
As for Jericho, OMG *swoon* He was present more in this book (thank goodness) so there was more of him to love. Just the line “I was in Barrons’ bedroom” gave me chills in anticipation… GAH! I suspect I will be buying a “Barrons Books & Baubles” T-shirt from Ms Moning’s website now #unashamedfangirl.

My review:

This installment is pretty dark. The Fae have taken over Dublin – the world, actually – and Mac has been so abused she cannot function. Enter the lovely Jericho Barrons, and all becomes better. God, I love that man! The UST of the previous books is still not resolved properly, and I frequently want to give Mac a slap, but she’s getting there. She just has to trust him more.

 

As for the end, well, I knew. I knew a couple of books back. The clues were all there, although Ms Moning is the mistress of the red herring. (Trying not to give away spoilers here, but… OMG. How can she end a book there??) This review is not terribly coherent, but if you’ve read the book you know what I mean. I’m starting the final installment straight away.

Faefever, by Karen Marie Moning

My review:

If Mac’s definition of the name of the car is correct, then all I can say is “Oh, Countach!”. It’s hard to review this book without giving away spoilers, but by the end of this book the unthinkable has happened and Mac is in deep, deep trouble.

There is a definite advantage to reading these books after the series has concluded, as I know there ar etwo more books to come and have faith the disaster will be cleared up satisfactorily by the end. If I had read this a couple of years ago when it first came out, I would feel very bleak indeed. All the more fuel to keep reading, though, to find out how she will get her petunia out of  harm’s way.

My rating: 5/5. The UST isn’t resolved, but the fact the storyline is getting darker makes this a more interesting read. And V’lane is growing on me too. I’m still a Barrons girl, though.
