Let’s back up.

How did we get from not kissing to kissing? What was that turning point? Did she lean into me? Did I move closer to her? Details matter. I’ll gladly share them.

Start with six months of sexual tension. Add in two mojitos for her, two beers for me, and a couple vodka tonics. Stir that with some bad news on the business front, and top it with the cherry of Natalie’s hit-me-over-the-head-with-a-stick comment that left no question as to what she wanted…and here I am.

We don’t lean into each other. There’s no inch-by-slow-sensual-inch pull. It’s not a slow burn.

It’s a fiery crash. We’re two cars speeding on the highway of this night, and we slam into each other, crawl across the hoods, and kiss like crazy.

Nothing is tentative about this. We go from not kissing to kissing in less than sixty nanoseconds. Yeah, I don’t really know what a nanosecond is, either. But it happens in no time.

“Not as long as I have. Now get those lips back on mine,” I tell her, and she complies.

My hands cup her cheeks, but I’m not gentle, and she doesn’t want me that way. She’s not a gentle girl. She’s badass and tough, and she wants what I want. I hold her face tightly in my hands, and she practically crawls into my lap in a rush to get closer, then closer still as she presses her tits against my chest.

I’m seated on a stool at the bar, and we are putting on some kind of show. But I don’t care.

My tongue searches and hunts, wanting to taste every corner of her mouth, savoring the vodka and the tonic and, most of all, the Natalie. She whimpers and moans, and I swallow every sexy sound she makes.

I kind of want to protest. I feel like she has this impression of me that I don’t necessarily want her to have, but I’m not sure how to deflect this. “Because I have a gift?”
“That and several other reasons.” She waves broadly at my arms. It’s October, but it’s not chilly tonight so I don’t have a jacket on. “First, there are the arms. All that ink and muscle.”

My review: I liked Scott a lot in the previous books and was intrigued by the premise of inserting a female firefighter into their work environment, especially as fill-in lieutenant. Jamie was a great heroine, and I liked the way she fitted right in and didn’t take any crap. The drama was a little overblown at times for me and the resolution came quite quickly, but overall a good addition to the series. I enjoyed it more than book 2 but not as much as the first book.

PROLOGUE

 

Ask me my three favorite things and the answers are so easy they roll off my tongue. Hitting a homerun for my softball league, drawing a killer cartoon panel, and, oh yeah, making a woman come so hard she sees stars.

Not gonna lie. That last one is my favorite, by about a mile. Giving a woman a sheet-grabbing, toe-curling, mind-blowing orgasm is pretty much the Best Thing Ever.

My review: Rick was a great hero but I didn’t have the same love for Jessica, who rubbed me up the wrong way even though she did become more likable in the middle of the story. I was glad to see some potential thawing of the situation with Davey and his parents, who were old sweeties, and it was nice to see the characters from the first book, albeit briefly.

In summary, not as engaging as the first book in the series, but still a great read. Looking forward to Scott’s book next 🙂

My review: Okay, so this is the second book this year I have bought based solely on its cover. But it’s a really, really good cover 😉 The book is also good, and Brody Easton is HOT, but the angst was a bit much for me and I feel it could have done with another quick edit. Football teams having a “bi week” does not mean what the author thinks it means, although it’s nice to know the NFL encourages sexual fluidity, lol! Keeland is a new author for me and this probably won’t be the only book of hers I will read, especially if she writes Indie’s story next.

My review: Okay, sure, I bought this solely for the cover. And the fact that the clever title font totally makes that R look like a C… oh, or is that just me? But in any case, I kept reading for the fun, witty banter and the spot-on male POV. I’m not normally a fan of the “pretend engagement/marriage” trope, but Spencer and Charlotte are such great characters they make it work so well. This is my first Lauren Blakely book but I’ll certainly read more by her. Can’t wait for Harper and Nick’s book!

My review: Some people will have a problem with this book – there is cheating of a sort and the hero is a bit of an ass a lot of the time. However, I really enjoyed the story and the writing, which drew me in to Noah and Kit’s freinds-to-lovers story. The trauma of Noah’s childhood was not revealed until very late in the book and this mystery was very intriguing, unlike Kit’s stalker who was easy to pick – I did so from the first mention of them in the story. Kit had the patience of a saint and I enjoyed her a lot more than I expected. Abe and Sarah’s story next should be interesting.

My review: Hot firefighters who play ice hockey in their downtime… need I say more? Oh, yes, this was hot. Just look at that cover! I’ve read a few of Shannon Stacey’s other works and I have to say this is my favourite so far.

Lydia is a great heroine, no-nonsense and ballsy enough to stand up to her overbearing father and cocky brother. Unfortunately for her, she breaks the firehouse code of brotherhood by giving in to her attraction to her brother’s best friend, the gorgeous Aidan. He is fantastic – a selfless firefighter with a dirty sense of humour and a penchant for answering the door only in his underwear. *sigh*

As well as writing a story that is extremely hot, Stacey has also done her homework regarding the firefighters’ routines, and I particularly enjoyed the way their boss stepped in to sort out the boys’ differences so they continued to have each other’s backs on the job. The secondary storyline involving Lydia’s sister and her firefighter husband was also well done.

This is a quick, easy read and a great start to a promising new series. I can’t wait to read the next book!
