18 & Over Book Blogger Follow #18: Is it 2013 yet?

30 Nov

18 & Over Book Blogger Follow is a weekly feature that runs over the weekend, hosted by Crystal from one of my favourite blog sites, Reading Between the Wines.

Question of the Week What are the Top 5 Books that you are looking forward to in 2013?

Apologies, folks! I haven’t been around for a while, and I haven’t done one of these follows for ages, but this looked like a good one to join in on.

Obviously, my first must-buy for 2013 will be Lover At Last by J.R. Ward. I know a lot of people are really looking forward to March when it comes out.

I can’t wait for Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi, because Shatter Me was one of my fave books this year. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

Julie James is another auto-buy, so Love, Irresistibly is expected to be really good.

I don’t have the cover for it yet, but Burned by Karen Marie Moning should be good. I haven’t read Iced yet – it isn’t available here, much to my annoyance – but this series is pure win and you can’t have enough Barrons or Ryodan.

And my number five, again with no cover yet, is Painting by Numbers by Jasper Fforde. The first book in this series, Shades of Grey, was amazing!

18 & Over Book Blogger Follow #17: Say You’re a Beta…

7 Sep

18 & Over Book Blogger Follow is a weekly feature that runs over the weekend, hosted by Crystal from one of my favourite blog sites, Reading Between the Wines.

Question of the Week If you could beta read for any author who would it be and why?

Well, I guess I already do beta for a number of authors, since I’m an editor at a small publishing house.

I really liked Crystal’s choices of J.R. Ward and Olivia Cunning 😉 but the one “big” author I would like to offer my services to would have to be Jaci Burton. I was hugely disappointed in the number of errors and inconsistencies in The Perfect Play, and it made me not want to read the rest of the series, even though a lot of people rave about them.

Being Jaci’s beta might also mean I’d get the chance to meet those cover models… it’d be a sacrifice but someone’s gotta do it!

18 & Over Book Blogger Follow #16: Review-Go-Round

3 Aug

18 & Over Book Blogger Follow is a weekly feature that runs over the weekend, hosted by Crystal from one of my favourite blog sites, Reading Between the Wines.

Question of the Week Please share three books that are in your review pile (and unread) right now.

I apologise for not having participated in this meme for a while, but here I am back again, admitting my TBR pile is HUGE! I have a huge list of unread books on my Kindle, and a pile of a dozen or more books gathering dust beside my bed.

Top of the gathering-dust pile at the moment is No Rest for the Wicked by Kresley Cole, which I’ve had since last year sometime.  I plan to read it this month for a Good Reads challenge – but I’ve said that before, lol!

I also plan to read Eternal Kiss of Darkness by Jeaniene Frost this month for the same challenge, and I’ve had that for about as long as the Kresley Cole. I bought it last year on sale and just can’t seem to get up enough enthusiasm to read Mencheres’ story :/

Finally, and probably the most embarrassing of all, I have been daunted by the size of A Breath of Snow and Ashesby Diana Gabaldon, which has been in that pile since the book came out in 2006! It’s just too big! I’ve had the next book in the series on my Kindle for a year or more, too, so I really must get onto it. Bad me.

Don’t even get me started on the other books in that pile – mostly presents which hold little appeal. But I will get to them one day!

18 & Over Book Blogger Follow #15: What to Pack?

16 Jul

18 & Over Book Blogger Follow is a weekly feature that runs over the weekend, hosted by Crystal from one of my favourite blog sites, Reading Between the Wines.

Question of the Week When going on vacay, do you pack your print books, e-reader or both?

Once again, I’m a bit late with this one – blame my computer exploding last week! Anyhoodle, it’s the middle of winter here so I envy anyone going away on holiday, but if it was me I would definitely just be packing my Kindle. I have 119 unread books on it as of right now, so I’d have plenty to choose from and could keep it in my handbag all day without fear of bending any corners.

18 & Over Book Blogger Follow #14: Cast Your Current Read!

24 Jun

18 & Over Book Blogger Follow is a weekly feature that runs over the weekend, hosted by Crystal from one of my favourite blog sites, Reading Between the Wines.

Question of the Week If your current read was made into a movie who would you cast as the characters?

I’m a bit late with this one, but I’ve just finished reading Irish Captive Moon, by Sandi Layne (review to come), and I had definite pictures in my head as I read of who I would cast.

Set in the eighth century A.D., the story is about Charis, a pale-haired Irish healer with just a touch of magic about her, who is abducted by Vikings who raid her village.

All the way through I pictured Emilia Clarke from Game of Thrones as Charis, only with her very white Targaryan hair, of course. She’s dirty in this picture, which is exactly how I imagined Charis as she is dragged off on the longboat to Norway and then forced to work as a slave.

Agnarr, the Viking who abducts her – and who I know I liked more than I should have – worshipped Thor and had a hammer charm on a rope around his neck, so I immediately saw him as Chris Hemsworth *sigh*

I’ve seen Thor a dozen times and would watch it every day – alternating with The Avengers when it comes out on Blu-ray – if I could. Maybe it was because I pictured him that I liked Agnarr so much 😉

Finally, there’s Cowan, an Irish prince with a knack for languages who is captured but later freed by the Vikings, and becomes Charis’s friend. I know he’s not Irish, but I pictured Alex Skarsgard in this role, only with a beard. He has the height and bearing of a prince, don’t you think?

18 & Over Book Blogger Follow #13: (Cat)Fight Club!

15 Jun

18 & Over Book Blogger Follow is a weekly feature that runs over the weekend, hosted by Crystal from one of my favourite blog sites, Reading Between the Wines.

Question of the Week Fight club! Heroine Vs. Heroine. Pick your two favorite kick-ass book heroines and pit them against each other. Who would win?

Ooh, this is a good one! Well, the first name to come to mind is Cat Crawfield, of course, from the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost, because it’s a cat fight and that’s her name! She’s a vamp, she has a kick-ass entourage (mmm… Bones, Spade, Ian, Vlad… *sigh*) and she doesn’t take anyone messing with her.

I would pit her against Payne, Vishous’s sister from J.R. Ward‘s the Black Dagger Brotherhood. She’s also a kick-ass vampire, is mad as hell, murdered her father and seriously injured King Wrath when they sparred together. She also has an awesome entourage of hot, lethal Brothers… *fans self*

In a fight, I think I’m gonna have to go with Payne. Cat would make too many wisecracks and Payne would just floor her with a roundhouse kick!

18 & Over Book Blogger Follow is a weekly feature that runs over the weekend, hosted by Crystal from one of my favourite blog sites, Reading Between the Wines.

Question of the Week If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go for a ‘readcation’?

My first thought was “bed” (lol!), but I guess my ideal holiday reading place would have to be Paris. I already live on an island in the South Pacific, so reading a book on the banks of the Seine sounds perfect, or like the girl in the picture, within sight of the Eiffel Tower. This sounds especially nice at this time of year, as it’s winter here. And I’ve never been to Europe. It’s on my bucket list #oneday

18 & Over Book Blogger Follow is a weekly feature that runs over the weekend, hosted by Crystal from one of my favourite blog sites, Reading Between the Wines.

Question of the WeekIs there a super hawt & smexy book that you’ve read and loved but would die if you ever caught your mom reading?

My mother is quite elderly, so I would have to say there are a lot of books I wouldn’t recommend to her, purely because I don’t think her heart could take it! The first one that comes to mind, though, is Fifty – of course – and my embarrassment goes a bit further than usual with that one because I was part of the editing team on the second and third books. The series got huge publicity here as a book to buy mums for Mother’s Day, but no way would I buy that for mine! And even though my name is in the front acknowledgements of Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, I’m not admitting that to my mum either!

18 & Over Book Blogger Follow is a weekly feature that runs over the weekend, hosted by Crystal from one of my favourite blog sites, Reading Between the Wines.

Question of the WeekDo you feel the need to write a review for your personal reads, as opposed to requested reviews, or are there some books you read just for the joy of reading?

I only ever review what I read for pleasure, because I’m not a famous enough blogger to have people make requests of me! I’ve never had a book supplied to me by an author, or got one through Net Galley or those kinds of places. All the reviews here are for books I have bought or won myself, or have helped edit through my job with TWCS.

As such, my reviews are always 100% honest, even for the books I have been involved in editing. You’ll know the ones I didn’t enjoy working on because they won’t get a review at all 🙂

18 & Over Book Blogger Follow is a weekly feature that runs over the weekend, hosted by Crystal from one of my favourite blog sites, Reading Between the Wines.

Question of the WeekWhat are you currently reading? Do you love it? Is it a new-to-you author or an old favorite? Tell us all about it!

I’m about halfway through Sacrificial Magic (Downside Ghosts #4), by Stacia Kane and I am absolutely loving it! I had to wait until this week to finally have it available in my little corner of the world, but it was worth the wait.

As always, there are a couple of mysteries for Chess to solve – they usually turn out to be linked – and this time we have the added bonus of her being officially in a relationship with the lovely Terrible *sigh* It’s really not going smoothly, though… but to say any more would be to give away spoilers.

This is an excellent series and I have given each one five supcakes so far. I highly recommend them.
