Welcome to Storm, Texas, where passion runs hot, desire runs deep, and secrets have the power to destroy… Get ready. The storm is coming.

Marisol Moreno has spent her youth taking care of her younger siblings. Now, with her sister, Ginny, in crisis, and her brother in the throes of his first real relationship, she doesn’t have time for anything else. Especially not the overtures of the incredibly compelling Patrick Murphy.

My review: Everything just ticks along in this installment, in which we get to see more of the existing couples and Marisol and Patrick. I was quite frustrated by their storyline and hope that gets resolved in a better way in a subsequent story. Nothing shocking happened here, so I guess I will have to read on to see if the remaining authors can tie it all up. Ms Zanetti is another new author for me, and while the story wasn’t the best in the series so far, her writing is very good.

Marcus Alvarez fled Storm when his father’s drinking drove him over the edge. With his mother and sisters in crisis, Marcus is forced to return to the town he thought he’d left behind. But it is his attraction to a very grown up Brittany Rush that just might be enough to guarantee that he stays.

My review: Ooh, yes! Things are starting to heat up again in the intrigue department. This episode by the great Larissa Ione focuses on newly returned Marcus Alvarez and Brittany Rush – clearly the nicest member of the Rush family – and their burgeoning relationship which I totally ship. The Rush family, though, have a few things up their sleeve, and I can’t wait to read on and see what happens.

During his time in Afghanistan, Logan Murphy has endured the unthinkable, but reentering civilian life in Storm is harder than he imagined. But when he is reacquainted with Ginny Moreno, a woman who has survived terrors of her own, he feels the first stirrings of hope.

My review: More happens here than with the previous installment, and we reconnect with what seems like all the families in Storm. Key to the drama this time is Logan Murphy, newly returned soldier, who takes a shine to pregnant Ginny Moreno. The already established storylines continue, and there is a new love triangle developing involving the town vet. Of course, as with the last book, this episode ends in typical soap opera fashion. Looking forward to the next one!

Welcome to Storm, Texas, where passion runs hot, desire runs deep, and secrets have the power to destroy…

Nestled among rolling hills and painted with vibrant wildflowers, the bucolic town of Storm, Texas, seems like nothing short of perfection.

But there are secrets beneath the facade. Dark secrets. Powerful secrets. The kind that can destroy lives and tear families apart. The kind that can cut through a town like a tempest, leaving jealousy and destruction in its wake, along with shattered hopes and broken dreams. All it takes is one little thing to shatter that polish.

Reading like an on-going drama in the tradition of classic day and night-time soap operas like Dallas, Dynasty, and All My Children, Rising Storm is full of scandal, deceit, romance, passion, and secrets.

With 1001 Dark Nights as the “producer,” Julie Kenner and Dee Davis use a television model with each week building on the last to create a storyline that fulfills the promise of a drama-filled soap opera. Stacking the Shelves #21

24 Oct

Stacking The Shelvesl_thumb2Hosted by Tynga’s Reviews

Welcome back to Stacking the Shelves, a regular meme hosted by Tynga at Tynga’s Reviews. Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the latest books you have added to your shelves, physical or virtual.  This means you can include books you buy in store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts, and of course e-books!

I’ve been a bit AWOL from this meme for a few weeks, but the book gathering has continued. I signed up to the blog tour for the Rising Storm serial and unexpectedly started receiving e-ARCs via InkSlingerPR. I didn’t receive the first book, so bought that myself from Amazon after the ARCs started turning up. I now have the first six in the series, and have read and reviewed three.

risingstormI also joined the mailing list for the series and received the free prequel novella, Storm Season, by Dee Davis, which tells the story of Ginny and Jacob.

27164578While I was there, I also joined the mailing list for 1001 Dark Nights, and received the free first novella, The First Night, by Lexi Blake and M.J. Rose.

24249819Netgalley continued feeding my addiction by granting me access to the e-ARC of The Greatest Zombie Movie Ever Made, by Jeff Strand. Love that cover!

26534110Also from Netgalley was All That is Lost Between Us, by Sara Foster, a new-to-me author that Netgalley recommended. Looks interesting and has a pretty purple cover.

26804824An author contacted me to read her ARC, The Marshall Plan, by Olivia Folmar Ard. It’s a sequel and I haven’t read the first book, but it looks good and features a journalist, so I’m there.

26803616 And, finally, since they were both free on Amazon, I grabbed Hide Your Heart, by local New Zealand author Tracey Alvarez, and When the Perfect Comes, by my friend and colleague, Susan Ward. Looking forward to both of these.

2517331423400297Whew! So that’s it for the last few weeks. When will I find time to read them all??? Keep an eye out for my reviews of these in coming weeks. So what new books did you pick up this week? Let me know in the comments.

Welcome to Storm, Texas, where passion runs hot, desire runs deep, and secrets have the power to destroy… Get ready. The storm is coming.

Lacey Salt’s world shattered with the death of her brother, and now the usually sweet-tempered girl is determined to take back some control—even if that means sabotaging her best friend, Mallory, and Mallory’s new boyfriend, Luis.

My review: Perhaps not as gripping as the previous episodes, but nevertheless crucial in establishing more characters and their motivations. We discover quiet Lacey Salt is in fact an evil Dakota clone, plotting to steal her best friend’s boyfriend and just asking for a comeuppance. Elisabeth Naughton is another new author for me and her writing style is good. This installment has a great soap opera ending. On to the next one!

Publisher: Evil Eye Concepts, Inc

Published: October 1, 2015

ASIN: B014XJ059O

Genre: Romance

Back cover blurb: Secrets, Sex and Scandals …

Welcome to Storm, Texas, where passion runs hot, desire runs deep, and secrets have the power to destroy… Get ready. The storm is coming.

As the citizens of Storm, Texas, sway in the wake of the death of one of their own, Daddy’s girl Dakota Alvarez also reels from an unexpected family crisis … and finds consolation in a most unexpected place.

My review: The soap opera serial continues with two of the least likable characters front and centre: sleazy Senator Sebastian Rush and spoilt brat Dakota Alvarez. There always has to be baddies in a soap – the badder the better – and these two fit the bill perfectly.

As with the first book by Julie Kenner, I haven’t read any Lexi Blake before but I enjoyed her style. I got a bit of a “more than friends” vibe from Rush’s wife, Peyton, and her nurse friend, so I’ll be interested to see where that storyline goes, and I’m enjoying the development of the sheriff’s romance of Dakota’s mother. On to the next book!
