Welcome back to Stacking the Shelves, a regular meme hosted by Tynga at Tynga’s Reviews. Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the latest books you have added to your shelves, physical or virtual.  This means you can include books you buy in store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts, and of course e-books!

I’ve been a bit AWOL from this meme for a few weeks, but the book gathering has continued. I signed up to the blog tour for the Rising Storm serial and unexpectedly started receiving e-ARCs via InkSlingerPR. I didn’t receive the first book, so bought that myself from Amazon after the ARCs started turning up. I now have the first six in the series, and have read and reviewed three.

risingstormI also joined the mailing list for the series and received the free prequel novella, Storm Season, by Dee Davis, which tells the story of Ginny and Jacob.

27164578While I was there, I also joined the mailing list for 1001 Dark Nights, and received the free first novella, The First Night, by Lexi Blake and M.J. Rose.

24249819Netgalley continued feeding my addiction by granting me access to the e-ARC of The Greatest Zombie Movie Ever Made, by Jeff Strand. Love that cover!

26534110Also from Netgalley was All That is Lost Between Us, by Sara Foster, a new-to-me author that Netgalley recommended. Looks interesting and has a pretty purple cover.

26804824An author contacted me to read her ARC, The Marshall Plan, by Olivia Folmar Ard. It’s a sequel and I haven’t read the first book, but it looks good and features a journalist, so I’m there.

26803616 And, finally, since they were both free on Amazon, I grabbed Hide Your Heart, by local New Zealand author Tracey Alvarez, and When the Perfect Comes, by my friend and colleague, Susan Ward. Looking forward to both of these.

2517331423400297Whew! So that’s it for the last few weeks. When will I find time to read them all??? Keep an eye out for my reviews of these in coming weeks. So what new books did you pick up this week? Let me know in the comments.

My Netgalley splurge continued this week, with a few more approvals added to my growing pile. First was Base Instincts, by Larissa Ione, which is a new M/M story in the Demonica universe. I really enjoyed this series and am looking forward to reading this novella.

25880767The second was Fangs for the Memories, by Molly Harper, who is one of my favourite authors for a good laugh. This is a novella in the Half-Moon Hollow series which I have really enjoyed.

25158742

Based on a recommendation from a friend, I picked up Coming In From The Cold, by Sarina Bowen, which is currently free on Amazon Kindle. I haven’t read anything by this author but I value my friend’s advice and it was free, so why not!

24917521Finally, I was browsing the bargain bins at a large department store this week and found All Fall Down, by Ally Carter in hardback on special, so I grabbed that, too. First time in a long time I have actually purchased a physical book for myself, but this has been on my TBR list for a while and the cover is so pretty!

24830401So that’s it for this week. Keep an eye out for my reviews of these in coming weeks. So what new books did you pick up this week? Let me know in the comments.

Following on from last week, when I got a bit carried away on Netgalley, I had a few more books approved for me to review. The first was Nirvana, by J.R. Stewart, which I was invited to review as part of Netgalley’s 2015 challenge. I love the cover and think it should be really interesting.

26164334

The second was This Book Will Change Your Life, by Amanda Weaver, who is one of my favourite fandom authors now publishing original stories. Really looking forward to this one.

26171428And to cap off the week, I was granted access to Dark Heart of Magic, by Jennifer Estep, which is the second book in her excellent Black Blade series. I loved the first book, Cold Burn of Magic,  so much (read my review HERE) so I may just have to drop everything to read this straight away. Very pretty cover on this one, too.

24975935I spent the last of my Amazon gift card on Heart-Shaped Hack, by Tracey Garvis-Graves. I participated in some of the blog tour for this but hadn’t received an ARC, so just had to buy it. It really looks like my kind of book.

25630718So that’s it for this week. Keep an eye out for my reviews of these in coming weeks. So what new books did you pick up this week? Let me know in the comments.

It’s been a little bit of a quiet time on the book-buying front. I’ve managed to pick up two short stories this week from Amazon. The first is Inherit the Stars:Reprieve, by Tessa Elwood, which is a prequel to Inherit the Stars, a book I have received from Netgalley and which is due to be published in December.

25691966The second is a Jojo Moyes short, Paris For One. I love her writing and am really looking forward to reading this one. Is it wrong of me to like it even more since it has a picture of a chocolate bar in the corner? 😉

24389206

Finally, I requested This Raging Light, by Estelle Laure, from Netgalley and was granted access by Orchard Books. This looks really interesting 🙂

I took “Dry July” to the extreme and didn’t buy or borrow any books, but now it’s August I’m back!

19265916I won a $US10 Amazon gift voucher this week, and have started spending it with two 1001 Dark Nights Demonica novellas from Larissa Ione, Aazagoth and Hades. Love these covers!

23439154

I made two requests from Netgalley and they were both granted. The first was Darken the Stars (Kricket, book 3) by Amy A. Bartol. I absolutely love this series and can’t wait to get started on this final installment.

24931971

I also asked for and was granted Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon, about which I have heard great things. Really looking forward to starting this one, too. Again, both of these have beautiful covers!

18692431Finally, I borrowed The Devil’s Star (Harry Hole, book 5) by Jo Nesbo on audiobook from the public library. I’ve read a few of his books and would like to read more of his Harry Hole novels. They’re very good.

22611728

Purchased from iBooks

I recently read my first Gail Carriger book, which I absolutely loved, so this week I grabbed one of her short stories from iBooks, The Curious Case of the Werewolf That Wasn’t, the Mummy That Was, and the Cat in the Jar. Great title!

11156712

Paperback given as a gift

It was my husband’s birthday recently and he was given Good As Dead by Mark Billingham, which he read in a couple of sittings last weekend. I have now inherited it in the pile beside my bed, so it’s the first by that author on my TBR.

21405845

Purchased from Amazon

Finally, I bought a couple of books with similar titles from Amazon so I can use them in my Goodreads reading challenges. Finding a book title that starts with the letter Z is tricky, so I snapped up Zack by M. Malone and Zack by Sawyer Bennett. I know nothing about either of these authors and purely chose the books by their titles, so I hope they’re good.

24375332

Invited to read via Netgalley

I was invited by Gallery Books to read Searching For Always by Jennifer Probst via Netgalley, which was my first invitation from a publisher since I joined – woo hoo! I have read a number of Probst books and enjoyed them a lot.

23472165

Freebie purchased from Amazon

Because I’ve been reading her other books, I grabbed Rewind by Susan Ward when it was free on Kindle this week. It’s a novella about the children from her other Half Shell and Affair Without End series, so I’m keen to read.

7892145

Purchased from Amazon

Finally, I bought Taken by Midnight by Lara Adrian from Amazon. I read a number of the Midnight Breed series earlier this year and am up to this one, so grabbed it while it was a couple of dollars cheaper. The last one ended with a bit of a cliffhanger so I’m keen to see what happens next.

So that’s it for this week. Keep an eye out for my reviews of these in coming weeks. So what new books did you pick up this week? Let me know in the comments.

Granted Netgalley requests

Granted Netgalley requests

I got a bit carried away on Netgalley this week  – Absolute Lovers by S.J. Hooks, Everybody Rise by Stephanie Clifford, and Are You Still There by Sarah Lynn Scheerger. Quite an eclectic group.

25386631

Purchased from iBooks

Because I hadn’t read the first book from S.J. Hooks, I purchased Absolute Beginners from iBooks using pretty much the last of my birthday gift voucher. I’m a big fan of her free works online, so am looking forward to this series.

25567199

Purchased from Amazon

Finally, I received my Amazon pre-order of Wingmen by Daisy Prescott, which I bought because it was only 99c on Kindle and I wanted to read one story in it which – sold separately – was $3.99.

So that’s it for this week. Whew! Keep an eye out for my reviews of these in coming weeks. So what new books did you pick up this week? Let me know in the comments.

23511480

Pre-ordered from Amazon

I missed a week, not having bought anything in the last week of May, but this week has been a different story, with a whole lot of my pre-orders being issued. I received my pre-order of Suddenly One Summer by Julie James from Amazon. She’s an auto-buy for me and I can’t wait to start it. That cover is so pretty! Also, because it was only 99c on Kindle, I bought Karma Girl by Jennifer Estep – another auto-buy for me.

12210883

Purchased from Amazon

I also received my pre-order of two novellas: One Night With You by Marie Force from Audible, and Honeymoon from Hell Part 1 by R.L. Mathewson from iBooks (purple covers for the win!).

24484520

Pre-ordered from Audible

24379219

Finally, Netgalley granted my request for Thank You, Goodnight by Andy Abramowitz, which sounds like a fun read.

Netgalley approved my request for Invasion of the Tearling by Erika Johansen. I haven’t read the first book – The Queen of the Tearling – yet, so I picked that up this week, too, from Audible.

From Amazon I purchased One Last Kiss and One More Kiss by Susan Ward, and later in the week grabbed her The Girl on the Half Shell, which was free. I’m reading the later books in these series out of order, so thought it was about time I bought the earlier books.
