 HARD TO SERVE - cover

Format: e-book, 120 pages

Publisher: Evil Eye Concepts, Incorporated

Published: June 28, 2016

ASIN: B018FCU0SG

Genre: Contemporary romance

Back cover blurb: To protect and serve is all Detective Kyler Vance ever wanted to do, so when Internal Affairs investigates him as part of the new police commissioner’s bid to oust corruption, everything is on the line. Which makes meeting a smart, gorgeous submissive at an exclusive play club the perfect distraction…

The director of the city’s hottest art gallery, Mia Breslin’s career is golden. Now if only she could find a man to dominate her nights and set her body—and her heart—on fire. When a scorching scene with a hard-bodied, brooding Dom at Blasphemy promises just that, Mia is lured to serve Kyler again and again.

Then, as their relationship burns hotter, Kyler learns that he’s been dominating the daughter of the hard-ass boss who has it in for him. Now Kyler must choose between life-long duty and forbidden desire before Mia finds another who’s not so hard to serve.

My review: Laura Kaye knows how to write some pretty hot scenes! This is a bridging book between her now concluded Hard Ink series and a new series centred around the Blasphemy BDSM club and its 12 co-owners. It was lovely to see Jeremy Rixey and the others from Hard Ink while at the same time learning about their friend, Detective Kyler Vance, and his surprising side venture as co-owner of the club. Kyler’s “scenes” with Mia and their growing relationship were so amazingly hot, and Kaye has clearly done her homework about the lifestyle. Loved it, and am so glad Master Griffin’s story will be the next in the series.

P.S: Does anyone think that looks like Ben Affleck on the cover?

Laura is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of over twenty-five books in contemporary and paranormal romance and romantic suspense, including the Hard Ink and Raven Riders series. Growing up, Laura’s large extended family believed in the supernatural, and family lore involving angels, ghosts, and evil-eye curses cemented in Laura a life-long fascination with storytelling and all things paranormal. She lives in Maryland with her husband, two daughters, and cute-but-bad dog, and appreciates her view of the Chesapeake Bay every day.

Hard Ever After (Hard Ink #4.6), by Laura Kaye

9 Mar

25489942Format: e-book, 176 pages

Publisher: HarperCollins

Published: February 2, 2016

Genre: Contemporary romance

Back cover blurb: Justice served. Honor restored. Team reunited.

After a long battle to discover the truth, the men and women of Hard Ink have a lot to celebrate, especially the wedding of two of their own—Nick Rixey and Becca Merritt, whose hard-fought love deserves a happy ending.

As Nick and the team shift from crisis mode to building their new security consulting firm, Becca heads back to work at the ER. But amid the everyday chaos of demanding jobs and their upcoming nuptials, an old menace they thought long gone reemerges, threatening the peace they’ve only just found.

Now, for one last time, Nick and Becca must fight for their always and forever, because they know that when true love overcomes all the odds it lasts hard ever after.

My review: Nice ending to the series that wraps up a major loose end and sees Becca and Nick tie the knot. My only gripe is those cover models are NOT how I pictured them.

Hard As Steel (Hard Ink #4.5), by Laura Kaye

22 Sep

23269593Format: e-book, 100 pages

Publisher: Evil Eye Concepts, Incorporated

Published: September 22, 2015

ASIN: B00NVMIZPQ

Genre: Contemporary romance

Back cover blurb: After identifying her employer’s dangerous enemies, Jessica Jakes takes refuge at the compound of the Raven Riders Motorcycle Club. Fellow Hard Ink tattooist and Raven leader Ike Young promises to keep Jess safe for as long as it takes, which would be perfect if his close, personal, round-the-clock protection didn’t make it so hard to hide just how much she wants him—and always has.

Ike Young loved and lost a woman in trouble once before. The last thing he needs is alone time with the sexiest and feistiest woman he’s ever known, one he’s purposely kept at a distance for years. Now, Ike’s not sure he can keep his hands or his heart to himself—or that he even wants to anymore. And that means he has to do whatever it takes to hold on to Jess forever.

My review: There’s a scene in this book which is one of the hottest I have ever read. Laura Kaye can certainly write steam, and we get there after a great buildup of UST. Jess and Ike have worked together for years at Hard Ink and lusted after each other almost from day one, but both have tragic pasts for which they bear the guilt. After all the turmoil at Hard Ink, Jess has to put herself in Ike’s care out of harm’s way, and the smexy times were just inevitable.

I loved both these characters and really enjoyed being introduced to the Raven Riders’ world. There is so much scope for further books, and I can’t wait to read the MC series when it begins in earnest. Highly recommended.

18 & Over Book Blogger Follow #7

4 May

18 & Over Book Blogger Follow is a weekly feature that runs over the weekend, hosted by Crystal from one of my favourite blog sites, Reading Between the Wines.

Question of the Week: Since it’s Cinco de Mayo weekend here let’s have a fun question this week! What’s your favorite beverage to drink while reading?

Oh, an easy one this week! That would have to be tea. Just plain old ordinary gumboot-variety English Breakfast tea, with milk and one sugar.

There’s nothing like it, especially when it’s been standing for a while so it’s nice and strong but exactly cool enough to drink. Heaven!

So, what about you? Leave a comment below or link up HERE to follow the meme.
